Our curriculum in first grade is very packed. It used to be said that you learned everything you needed to know in Kindergarten; while that is still true, it is here in first grade that we provide a foundation of skills that will only be built upon on as your child progresses through the grade levels. I have given you a link to all the curriculum maps that we use to guide our instruction in class. We will however be phasing out of this this year and instead be using the CCSS or the Common Core State Standard this year. This system is more aligned with our current Pinacle grading system as well as our Standards Based grading guidelines and interim reports. There are links on the right that you can view to take a closer look at the CCSS. If you have any questions, please let your teacher know.
**A note on curriculum/CCSS--there is a lot of it. We will cover most of the material in the maps but not all. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Another great resource is this website:
http://www.theschoolbell.com/Links/Dolch/Contents.html
It contains activities to all the Dolch words. Dolch words are much like the High Frquency Words (HFW) which are the most commonly used words in our language. You can also use these words to help your student. They will not be formally assessed on these but are a great to practice along with the HFW.
