![]() Summer is here! From all of us-- we hope that you and your families enjoy a safe, fun and relaxing summer. We have worked hard all year and hope that during the summer months will make some time to reinforce and review the skills we have worked so hard on this year. We have designed this page as review from this school year and a bridge into the next school year.
Below is a calendar of little "refresher skills" that you can do for 15 minutes a day that will help your student stay sharp. Often times MANY students regress in skill mastery over the summer and do not start the year off as strong as they ended the previous school year.
We also encourage you to visit the "Technology Links" tab to go onto the websites there as an added incentive for doing a great job with the calendar refresher skills-- who doesn't want to have fun and learn something at the same time? One thing that we want to still stress is the importance of reading to you and truly focusing on comprehension and fluency.
Thank you again for all your hard work. We know that in the summer it should be a relaxing time but those extra 15 -30 minutes a day on refreshing these skills will be well worth it once school rolls around again in August! |

Summer Skills Packets These packets are designed for you to "pick and choose" the skills you would like for your student to work on. You will need Adobe Reader to view and print the files. These booklets are thick so you may only want to print what you need.

***************************************************************************************** Summer Reading Lists These lists are merely suggestions and were not complied by us. Please use these as a guideline. We have attached a letter sent home at the beginning of the year to help give you guidelines when reading with your child. http://www.cfisd.net/dept2/library/reading2.pdf http://www.educationworld.com/summer_reading/2nd_grade.shtml http://www.nisk.k12.ny.us/birchwood/recrdng2.html
Fluency Fluency is an important part of the reading process. Fluency is assessed on how many words can be read correctly in one minute. In theory multiple readings of the passage will not only increase their fluency but also their word accuracy! Please do not worry if after several readings your student memorizes the passage-- hopefully by looking at the same words over and over they will have been placed to long term memory! This website can give you an idea on some examples of reading passages. Again, these are not generated by us as we use a different system given to us by the county but they will give you an idea. http://terpconnect.umd.edu/~dlspeece/cbmreading/studentmat/grade1/index.html |
