Debary Elementary School First Grade

Hola! My name is Mrs. Mancillas and I will be your child's First Grade teacher. I graduated from Lake Sumter Community College with my AA degree, then attended the University of Central Florida and graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. I have taught first grade for 9 years and love it. Teaching children is truly my passion. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. I enjoy coming to work daily and watch my students learn. I have a fabulous family. I am married to an amazing husband, Luis and just celebrated our 10th year anniversary. We have three wonderful children, twin girls, Karla and Elizabeth (7 yrs. old in 2nd gr.) and an awesome little boy, Angel (5yrs. old in K). All three of my children attend DeBary Elementary. I enjoy going swimming and riding bikes with my children. I also love to just relax and dive myself into a good book.

I am very excited and privileged to teach your child during this school year. I will try my best to make this an amazing learning experience in First Grade!!

If you need to contact me, please feel free to call the school (386) 575-4230 or e-mail me at yvmancil@volusia.k12.fl.us

 Please take note

  • Our day begins at 7:51am with the first bell.
  • The tardy bell will ring at 7:56am.  Your child will need a late pass from the office, if arriving after this time.
  • Dismissal is at 2:05pm, with the exception of early release Wednesdays when we dismiss at 1:05pm. Walkers, car riders, and students going to DSA dismiss through Mrs. Hamlin’s classroom on the parent pick up side (room 2-113).
  • Our tentative lunch schedule is from 11:00am to 11:30am (on early release days-TBA).  If you wish to join your child for lunch, you must first sign in at the front office. You may sit outside on the picnic tables if you’d like, however, you may not take any other students from our class to join you, unless you have written permission to do so from the parent of that child.
  • Our Special Area time is from 12:00pm-12:40pm except on early release Wednesdays where it is from 11:20am–11:50amIt is recommended that your child wear tennis shoes on a daily basis, not just for the sake of comfort and safety, but also to ensure that they will always be prepared for PE.

Communication and Homework

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Each child will be assigned one folder. Folders will be sent home daily. My email address is also noted on the folder for your convenience.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Each Monday there will be a Homework packet for the whole week in the folder.  Homework will only be collected on Fridays Please do not turn in Homework before then.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Notes from home and lunch money can be placed in the folder. Daily behavior will be noted in the folder and our behavior code and class rules are posted in the inside. I will communicate with you mostly through the folder so it is vital that you check it daily, empty it, initial it, and return it to school daily.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->If ever there are changes in the way your child goes home, please let me know in writing by placing a note in their folder or please call and leave a message with the front office.

Recess

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->We try to have a few minutes of inside or outside recess every day. Oftentimes, because it is so hot and students become lethargic and dehydrated, outdoor recess is not always the best option. You may send in a small bottle of water for your child to keep on their desk throughout the day if you so choose.

Birthdays

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Per Volusia County Schools’ nutritional guidelines, we celebrate all birthdays in a given month on one day, usually the last Friday of the month. When it is your child’s turn, I will send out a letter informing you of the date and time our celebration will take place, as well as, suggest a treat to send in if you desire to do so.  ***Important note on birthdays: Birthday celebrations are a privilege. If a student chooses to make poor choices on a celebration day (including the birthday boy/girl) they will not be allowed to participate.  Instead, during the celebration, they will have a time out in another first grade classroom and must take their treat home.
